Developers' Tips

The following tips presuppose that the developer is already familiar
with the basics of rule writing for the Logos System

method/process/procedure
Notice how the grammatical function of the particle to in the infinitive clause to solve this problem differs in each of the following sentences:
          (1) They developed a new installation procedure to solve this problem.
          (2) They found a new way to solve this problem.
Taken as individual words, both procedure in (1) and way in (2) are
ABmeth nouns and hence normally each should cause the infinitive clause to solve this problem to be attached to the noun. But this is not the case in (1) because procedure is the head of a compound NP that already contains its clausal complement (new installation procedure).   Hence, in (1), the infintive clause to solve this problem defaults to an adverbial clause (with the particle to having the sense of in order to).
